Shanghai and Beijing have the biggest triathlon communities in China, besides Hong Kong, so a sensible choice for Ironman to start an event there in 2018.
Shanghai is considered the most western city in China and therefore one of the easiest places to navigate in China, you might think. However, Shanghai 70.3 is actually located in a more ‘rural’ setting in Chong Ming, a 2 hours drive from the city. Because of the flat course and cool climate you may expect a fast time, but don’t expect the glamour of Shanghai.
The reigning champions are Filipe Azevedo (POR) and Kelsey Withrow (USA). Who? Enough said, let’s move on! On our tour it is merely a stop towards Beijing.
